The rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a done deal according to a Filipino journalist. He allegedly heard people close to the fighting senator that an agreement is already underway and both camps are just negotiating about their fight purse.

Salve Asis of Philippine Star said in Filipino that the fight is on the bag. He is claiming that he overheard a person close to Pacquiao that the match could happen anytime soon.

The news isn't still verified by both parties, but if it's true, the long-awaited saga could finally push through after years of delays. After beating Keith Thurman on July, Pacquiao has been pushing Mayweather Jr. for a rematch, but his camp has repeatedly said that he's retired.

The president of MP Promotions, Sean Gibbons, has confirmed that there have been multiple attempts for the rematch but Floyd was uninterested in coming out of retirement.

A week ago, Floyd announced that he's arranging an exhibition match against the Filipino pugilist in Tokyo, Japan. Manny has since insisted that he doesn't want an exhibition, the 40-year-old welterweight champ said that he wants a real fight.

It's still unclear if Asis' statements are connected to Floyd Mayweather's pronouncements. The first bout between the two future boxing Hall-of-Famers set numerous records, including the wealthiest fight in the history of the sport.

Last week, Bob Arum weighed in Manny's next bout and said that it should be against Mayweather. He added that if it does not happen, the Filipino boxing icon should retire.

He said that "it's not worth it for him to continue boxing" if he won't fight Mayweather. Arum believes that it's too risky to compete at 41, adding that "he can no longer afford to take the same punishment" as his younger years.

Pacquiao will be announcing his next opponent in the coming weeks according to boxing journalist Michael Benson. If the alleged information is correct, we could be hearing Jr.'s name.
