McDonald’s is offering its Spicy Chicken McNuggets for a limited time at some U.S. locations. The fast-food giant had first introduced spicy nuggets as a test menu item in September 2020.

There are about 13,500 McDonald’s locations across the U.S. and approximately 6,900 locations will have the new nuggets, McDonald's told CNN Business. There has been no information as to which locations or regions will have them, or how long the menu item will be available.

The spicy nuggets are the first “flavored” version of the original McDonald’s nugget recipe. The first Chicken McNuggets were released in the late 1970s and became more available by 1983. Chicken McNuggets have an average price of $4.49 for 10 pieces.

“When we introduced Spicy Chicken McNuggets last year, it marked the first-ever McNugget flavor innovation since this iconic menu item was introduced in 1983,” McDonald's said in a press release from another time when the nuggets were re-introduced in 2021.

According to the press release, the new nuggets have a breaded tempura coating of cayenne and chili peppers. The “Mighty Hot Sauce” is made of crushed red pepper, spicy chilis and savory garlic.

McDonald’s often brings back fan-favorite items for a limited time. Other similar limited-time menu items include the McDonald’s Shamrock Shake, McRib, and Holiday Pie.
