Tech giant MediaTek recently revealed its newest line of mobile chipsets and this time it comes with 5G network support. The new line up is called Dimensity and the first entry to its roster is the Dimensity 1000 5G 7nm build SoC.

Unlike the traditional chipset build, the new Dimensity 1000 5G will be built with 5G capability integrated into it. As a result, the new Dimensity 1000 5G will take up significantly lesser space.

"Our Dimensity series is a culmination of MediaTek's investment in 5G and positions us as a leader driving 5G development and innovation. Our 5G technology goes head-to-head with anyone in the industry," said MediaTek President Joe Chen in the press release.

"We chose the name Dimensity to highlight how our 5G solutions are driving new waves of innovation and experiences, much like the fabled fifth dimension.”

This new 5G chip is capable of up to 4.7 gbps downloads and 2.5 gbps uploads and will have Bluetooth 5.1 support.

As for its performance, the Dimensity 1000 5G got a score of over 480,000 on Antutu and 12,096 on GeekBench 4.2. As a comparison, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ got a score of around 490,000 and around 11,000, respectively.

As compared against the new Snapdragon 855 and 855+, MediaTek claims it performs 38 percent faster than Wi-Fi 5 on the Snapdragon 855. The chip is said to consume 40 percent less power compared to Qualcomm’s flagship chip.

"Our first announced chip, MediaTek Dimensity 1000, gives consumers a significantly faster, more intelligent and all-around incredible mobile experience,” Chen added.

Devices powered by Dimensity 1000 5G will start to hit the market in the first quarter of 2020.
