A 1-year-old pup, aptly named ‘Miracle’ by rescuers, was found pinned under an air conditioner in a pile of debris caused by Hurricane Dorian, on Oct. 4, Friday.

The dog was rescued from Abaco, the hardest hit of the Bahamian Islands by the Category 5 hurricane last month, ABC News reported.

The workers from Florida's Big Dog Ranch Rescue were thrilled to find the dog alive under rubble where they say he was trapped for more than three weeks. "Seeing this poor little darling dog just trapped underneath there and thinking about how hard he fought to stay alive,'' Lauree Simmons, the founder and president of Big Dog Ranch Rescue told TODAY.

The foundation launched an advanced search operation in which they used a drone with a high-resolution heat-seeking camera to help them spot dogs that might have been trapped in rubble.

Miracle was emaciated at the time of being found as he had survived for three weeks without food. He was reportedly motionless when the rescue team spotted him.

“The big miracle here was that he was pinned and still survived,” Big Dog Ranch Rescue CEO Christopher Kraus told Good Morning America.

Simmons said she believed that Miracle only drank rainwater during the three weeks of time he was trapped in the debris. She estimated the dog had lost 50 percent of his body weight and hence, it is receiving small two hourly meals now to cure its stomach. The Florida organization has now launched a search operation for its owners.

“He was very weak… He’d probably lost about half his body weight,” Kraus added.

"We had Miracle in our arms within two hours of him being rescued," Simmons told Kerry Sanders on TODAY Monday.

The rescue foundation is making every possible effort to help Miracle come back to normal. He is undergoing treatment and therapy besides getting food and water. Kraus said Miracle is “doing well” now and that he is putting on weight too. He has reportedly gained 22 to 26 pounds already as per the last two days’ scrutiny, they said.
