  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will return to the United Kingdom next year.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their decision to celebrate Christmas in the United States last month. The royal couple revealed that they want to spend the holidays with the Duchess of Sussex’s mom, Doria Ragland, after having spent Christmas in Sandringham for the past two years.

But a royal expert recently revealed that there’s another reason why the couple decided to skip the celebrations in the United Kingdom. In an article she wrote for Vanity Fair, royal author Katie Nicholl said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to have a low-key Christmas following a tumultuous year.

“Now on a sabbatical from royal duties until January, Meghan, Harry, and Archie spent their first Thanksgiving as a family in the States with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and are now enjoying some downtime. Given their whirlwind year it’s no wonder they are trading a busy royal Christmas for a more low-key family affair,” she said.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Markle’s trip to the United States with their son, Archie, is not a full break away from their royal duties. It has just been revealed that the couple is rallying together some of their most influential contacts from the US to boost their platform overseas.

A source told The Telegraph that this is something that Markle has wanted to do for a long time.

“Even in her younger years in Hollywood, she wanted to work towards creating an international charity changing lives. Now that she has the platform and profile of being a British royal, she can truly build this plan. She sees this foundation as one of the key factors in creating a legacy as a new royal and Harry is right behind her,” the source said.

In related news, Markle also made headlines this week after her prom photo resurfaced. In the snap, Prince Harry’s wife is just 16 years old, but it’s evident that she hasn’t aged as much.

“She still looks the same, good genes,” one royal fan commented on Instagram.

“She hasn’t changed,” another person said.
