  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their second baby Friday
  • The Sussex couple has been very vocal about their love for Queen Elizabeth
  • Harry and Meghan named their daughter after the Queen and the late Princess Diana

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the arrival of their second child, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Sunday. The former "Suits" actress gave birth to her daughter on Friday at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.

"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe," Meghan and Harry announced in a statement Sunday. "Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Although Harry and Meghan were very vocal about why they were forced to quit their roles as senior royals in 2020, Page Six reported that the couple called Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Prince William following the arrival of baby Lilibet. The publication also suggested that Harry and Meghan's love and respect for the Queen was one of the primary reasons why they named their daughter after her.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales," the couple's statement read.

Lilibet is actually the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth. She was too young to be able to enunciate her own name that she used to call herself "Lilibet" instead.

Arther Edwards, a royal photographer, even shared that the late Prince Philip always referred to Elizabeth as Lilibeth. Even the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret always addressed the Queen using her nickname.

Prince Harry and Meghan shared details of their relationship with Queen Elizabeth during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. At the time, the Duke of Sussex revealed he had a "really good relationship" with his grandmother, but Prince Charles "disappointed" him. He said he loves Prince William but "they're on different paths" now.

Prince Harry and Meghan currently live in a $14 million mansion in Montecito, California, with their 2-year-old son, Archie. The royal couple confirmed in February that they are expecting. A month later, they revealed the child would be a girl.
