Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are shockingly more popular after quitting royal roles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex surprised the world when they announced that they are stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family. Many felt that they couldn’t make it on their own, but according to SEMrush, a trends data provider that tracked Twitter sentiment surrounding the Royal news, Prince Harry and Markle have actually become more popular.

Based on the data shared by Brenna Goodsitt of 5W Public Relations, 39.26 percent of tweets about the couple were positive and 33.79 percent were negative. Also, the royal searches for the couple are spiking.

The searches for Prince Harry and Markle are 40 times higher than usual and searches for Prince Harry alone are 50 times higher. Usually, Markle tends to have higher search volume on average and that increased 15 times more after their shocking announcement.

The couple’s Instagram following has also grown by 400,000 enabling them to get closer to that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Kate Middleton have always remained more popular than the Sussexes on Instagram.

Prince Harry and Markle celebrated New Year with 10 million followers. After they announced that they are stepping back, they sparked further interest and they now have 10.6 million followers only 200,000 short from the Cambridge’s number of followers.

However, according to Dominic Green, Prince Harry and Markle are doomed after quitting their royal roles. For him, the only way out to the royal family is via guillotine. He also added that following the Sussexes’ move of reducing their royal-ness, they were reduced to second-tier celebrities.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II was furious and disappointed at Prince Harry and Markle. Her Majesty was reportedly not pleased because they didn’t consult the senior members of the royal family about their plans. They only learned about the Sussexes plan about stepping down from their roles when it was reported on TV.
