Meghan Markle should not be compared to Princess Diana because they are very different.

Just recently, George Clooney made a comparison between the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales. According to the “Catch-22” actor, Markle is being “pursued and vilified” by the media just like her late mother-in-law. However, not everyone agreed with Clooney.

Royal commentator Claudia Joseph spoke with Sky News and pointed out that the two have a “very different ball game” in the media.

“The reality is we live in a very different world from when Diana sadly died and there are extreme regulations like IPSO that stop the press chasing Meghan in the same way that perhaps Diana was perhaps occasionally chased and I don’t think she has been followed at all,” Joseph said.

The expert claimed that Markle is at fault for the backlash she received by saying that she “brought this on herself.” Markle’s anonymous friends spoke up last week in an interview with People to defend her from all the criticism she’s been getting from online trolls and from her own family.

For Joseph, Markle’s father can’t be blamed because he feels alienated. She suggested that if the royals wanted to silence him, then they should spend time with him and brief him. Otherwise, the issue will just go back and forth.

“And journalists are there to report what is said,” Joseph said. “It’s not our choice for her friends to brief the press, for Thomas Markle to keep talking again and again.”

A number of netizens also disagreed with Clooney’s comparison. According to them, the two royals are very different. Some even called Clooney “clueless” for making such a comparison.

Piers Morgan has the same observations. According to him, Markle wasn’t naive like 19-year-old virgin Princess Diana when she met Prince Harry. He alleged that Markle “milked all the global fame and attention that subsequently come her way with obvious glee.”

In addition, Markle isn’t as popular as Princess Diana. The People’s Princess was one of the biggest stars on the planet while the former "Suits" star isn’t even in the top three biggest stars in Kensington Palace, according to Morgan.

In related news, Markle got the support of a royal princess in the wake of the controversy involving online trolls. Tessy Antony, Princess of Luxembourg encouraged everyone to not take advantage of the anonymity of the web and to instead stay kind because it’s the new cool. She added that Markle doesn’t deserve all the criticism and attacks she’s been getting online.
