Update: 9:10 a.m. EDT - The gunman who open-fired at the Purple Haze nightclub Monday was still at large, the police confirmed. Contrary to previous reports, authorities said there were four victims of the shooting, not five.

“3:25 a.m. [4:25 a.m. EDT] officers responded to a shooting @ The Purple Haze nightclub @ 140 George W. Lee. 4 victims were shot a xported to the hospital. 1 victim is in critical condition, 3 victims are in non-critical. No arrest has been made @ this point. This is an ongoing investigation,” the police department tweeted.

A gunman opened fire in a nightclub in Memphis, Tennessee, leaving at least five injured in the early hours of Monday.

The incident took place at the Purple Haze nightclub, located at Lt. George W. Lee Avenue and South Second Street, Memphis, at around 3:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. EDT). According to ABC-affiliated KSAT, four ambulances were seen outside the nightclub. A fire engine was also present.

All the victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. While four of them were transported to Regional One, the fifth one was taken to Methodist, Mirror Online reported.

The natures of their wounds were not disclosed and their current condition is not known. There were no reports of any fatalities in the shooting.

Police arrived at the scene and are currently investigating. They have not released an official statement regarding the incident yet. Neither the names of the suspect or the victims have been released yet. It is also not known whether the suspect has been apprehended by the police. Authorities are still working to establish a motive behind the shooting.

Purple Haze has been rated fifth in USA Today's list of 10 best dance clubs in Memphis. "The 5,000- s.f. club isn't huge, as dance clubs go, but there's lots of flashy lighting and an amped-up sound system that makes the club rock," the website said.
