Sofia Black-D’Elia and Carla Jimenez couldn’t be happier to work with Kaitlin Olson on “The Mick.”

In an interview with Yahoo TV, Black-D’Elia said that she felt a connection to Olson the moment she tested with her. “When I tested with her, I felt instantly connected to her and felt safe and comfortable to fail — which is really important when you’re new at comedy — and that’s such a testament to Kaitlin and how warm and welcoming she can be,” said Black-D’Elia, who plays Sabrina on the FOX sitcom. “I definitely felt that there was like a spark between us and I was like, ‘This is special and I really hope that I get this job because it felt right.’”

Jimenez, meanwhile, said that acting opposite Olson has been a cool experience for her. “When you get to work with her, it’s really cool because you start out with this really funny script and then they just kind of tell you to go and play off a little a bit. And once she gets going you just gotta keep up,” Jimenez told Yahoo TV of working with Olson, who plays Mickey on the comedy series.

“I love working with her,” added Jimenez who portrays Alba on the show. “I think she is such an amazing actress. She’s so funny and her timing is insane.”

Apparently, Olson also saw something special to both Black-D’Elia and Jimenez during the audition process, and that’s why she, along with her fellow producers, cast them for their roles.

“I picked those kids and worked with them a lot during auditions,” Olson told Fairfax of Black D’Elia, Jack Stanton (Ben Pemberton) and Thomas Barbusca (Chip Pemberton). “They are all wonderful. They have completely different energies and all bring something special and unique to the show.”

“As does Carla Jimenez,” Olson added of the actress who plays the Pembertons’ domestic help. “She is comedically gifted and she and I can improvise a lot — which is fun.”
