Microsoft China confirms the existence of ‘Lumia Phone X / Lumia X / Surface Phone’ by mistake -- via a description on a video. Reuters

Microsoft China has apparently disclosed that a handset named “Lumia Phone X” is in the works.

In order to explain the futuristic Continuum, Microsoft China apparently created and uploaded a video. For those uninitiated, the feature “Continuum” seen in the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Microsoft Lumia 950 XL allows users to pair the aforementioned handsets with a monitor, keyboard and a mouse. This way, it allows the user to continue the work from handsets to a system seamlessly.

In other words, users can convert a Lumia 950 or a Lumia 950 XL into a PC via Continuum. This is done with the help of a Display Dock.

Readers should note that the video does not talk about the Lumia Phone X or Lumia X. However, the description of the video has this device name. To be specific, the video description says “Continuum is supported by the Microsoft Lumia 950/XL, Lumia Phone X and Acer Jade Primo,” Phone Arena reported.

However, within a matter of hours, Microsoft China edited the description to remove Lumia Phone X out of the compatible handsets list, but not before tech Websites took a screenshot of it. In any case, this is the first time, we have seen an almost-official confirmation on the existence of such a phone.

Not long ago, it was rumored that the Microsoft Lumia 650 is the only Lumia handset earmarked for 2016 and the heavily-rumored, high-end Lumia 850 and Lumia 750 are out of the race. However, the same report said that a Surface Phone will be released at some point this year. Looking at the new disclosure, there is a good possibility that the Surface Phone is nothing but the Lumia Phone X.

As always, readers are advised to take this news with the proverbial pinch of salt as Microsoft has not officially confirmed any information so far.
