Microsoft announced in a blog post Friday that it is “horrified, angered and saddened” by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and that it will "suspend all new sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia."

“We are announcing today that we will suspend all new sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia,” vice chairman and president Brad Smith said. “In addition, we are coordinating closely and working in lockstep with the governments of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, and we are stopping many aspects of our business in Russia in compliance with governmental sanctions decisions.

Other notable companies, such as Dell Technologies and Nike, have also cut off ties with Russia as sanctions against Moscow escalate, Reuters reports.

Smith also said that the company is actively working to protect cybersecurity administrators in Ukraine from Russian attacks. “We believe we are most effective in aiding Ukraine when we take concrete steps in coordination with the decisions being made by these governments and we will take additional steps as this situation continues to evolve,” he said.

Apple said Tuesday it has halted all of its sales in Russia as well, stating that it is "deeply concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stand with all of the people who are suffering as a result of the violence."
