Twitter was generally disappointed with Miley Cyrus’ American Music Awards performance on Sunday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The 21-year-old was the last to perform, and many were hoping she'd put on a risqué, twerk-stuffed, animal-style performance like she did at the Video Music Awards in August. But Cyrus was relatively reserved during her act Sunday night.

The toned crooner stood in a two-piece, cat-print outfit that exposed her legs and midriff. In the background was a digital cat that appeared to be lip-synching the words to the “Bangerz” star’s latest hit, “Wrecking Ball,” which broke records on YouTube when it was released. In the beginning of the video, Cyrus cries a few tears, and this performance was completed with a crying cat in the background.

Cyrus recently bleached her eyebrows to match her platinum hair, but for the event on Sunday night, she darkened them back up. Viewers could have guessed the star was going to put on a toned-down performance by the way she showed up to the AMAs. Instead of her usually eyebrow-raising attire, Cyrus donned a white tuxedo with black stilettos on the red carpet.

Though it was a slight change of pace for the star, she still managed to stick out her tongue after the performance, which appears to have become a signature move. Check out what Twitter had to say about Cyrus’ most recent rendition of “Wrecking Ball” below:
