After getting some flak for stereotyping hip-hop culture, Miley Cyrus has come out to defend herself by claiming that she actually likes all kinds of music. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, was recently spotted surfing in Malibu alone.

On Saturday, Cyrus took to Instagram to write a lengthy post clarifying the controversial statement she made about the hip-hop scene. The singer-actress also blamed the media in her post for sensationalizing what to her was just a comment from her perspective. “When articles are read it isn’t always considered that for hours I’ve spoken with a journalist about my life, where my heart is, my perspective at that time, and the next step in my career,” she opened her clarification. “Unfortunately only a portion of that interview makes it to print & a lot of the time publications like to focus on the most sensationalized part of the conversation.”

Cyrus then went on to say that she appreciates all kinds of music, and the controversial comment she made was actually her response to a question about rap. “To be clear I respect ALL artists who speak their truth and appreciate ALL genres of music (country, pop, alternative …. but in this particular interview I was asked about rap). I have always and will continue to love and celebrate hip hop as I’ve collaborated with some of the very best!” she said.

The “Hannah Montana” star explained that at this point in her life she prefers “uplifting, conscious rap” since she’s expanding her horizons as a person and as an artist. For Cyrus, it’s about time that the younger generation hear rap music that gives positive messages. “As I get older I understand the effect music has on the world & seeing where we are today I feel the younger generation needs to hear positive powerful lyrics!” she shared.

In the end, Cyrus maintained that she’s just here to spread love to everyone and encourage others to love, laugh and live fully. She also hopes that her words, either spoken or sung, could help everyone unite and fight for what’s right. Lastly, she teased that she’s putting out new music soon when she wrote, “Look forward to sharing my new tunes with you soon.”

The “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker has garnered mostly positive comments since publishing her post. “You are an inspirational young lady. Looking forward to listening to your new tunes. You are perfect role model to all people,” one wrote. “You literally stated your opinion and now people are feeling like you’re bashing an entire race,” another commented.

Cyrus’ post comes after Billboard published its latest cover story on the singer. In the interview, she raved about Kendrick Lamar’s new single entitled “Humble,” but expressed her disdain for the sexual and misogynistic themes that most hip-hop songs have nowadays. “That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little … I am so not that,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cyrus’ fiancé was spotted enjoying some alone time in Malibu on Friday morning. The “Hunger Games” actor was photographed by Just Jared wearing a wetsuit while enjoying the waves with his surfboard. The 27-year-old and his brothers are known to be big fans of surfing, so it’s no surprise that he’s constantly spotted at the beach practicing and performing some stunts in the water.

Cyrus and Hemsworth started dating while they were filming their 2009 movie, “The Last Song.” After two years of getting to know more of each other, the Hollywood actors got engaged. However, the two split less than a year into their engagement, with rumors claiming Hemsworth cheated on Cyrus, who at the time was getting an edgy transformation in her career. In 2016, the celebs surprised everyone when they got back together, with Cyrus now wearing the engagement ring Hemsworth gave her when he first proposed.
