Plutarco Ruiz, the boyfriend of Miss Honduras’ sister, has confessed to shooting and burying her and the 19-year-old beauty queen, BBC reported, citing police officials. The bodies of Maria Jose Alvarado and her sister, Sofía Trinidad, were found Wednesday near a river in the mountainous region of Santa Barbara in western Honduras.

The bodies of the two sisters were discovered near a spa where they had disappeared a week earlier. Gen. Ramon Sabillon, National Police director, told The Associated Press (AP) that Ruiz shot Trinidad first, after an argument broke out between the two. He reportedly also shot Alvarado twice in the back when she tried to flee. Police also reportedly arrested another suspect and are searching for other clues to the killings. The murder weapons and the vehicle used to transport the women’s bodies have been found, authorities reportedly said.

Ruiz shot and killed Trinidad in a fit of jealousy after he saw her dancing with "another person or something similar,” Leandro Osorio, head of the criminal investigation unit said, according to Reuters. "This is the main hypothesis we have for this crime, based on the witnesses and investigations we've done," he reportedly said.

The two women were last seen alive in a car without a license plate when they left Ruiz’s birthday party on Nov. 13.

"They were not very astute about assessing the people around them. They were just friendly," Teresa Munoz, the mother of the sisters said, according to AP. "They were going out with people they hadn't known very long."

Alvarado, who was crowned Miss Honduras in April, had been reportedly preparing to travel to London for the Miss World contest in December.

The organizers of the beauty pageant said that the country will not participate this year because of the tragic death of the contestant, AP reported. The pageant is "devastated by this terrible loss of two young women who were so full of life," Julia Morley, chairman of the Miss World Organization said, according to Reuters.
