Police in Del City, Oklahoma, arrested the boyfriend of a missing 17-year-old girl, who is believed to have been murdered.

Tanner Washington, 24, was arrested Thursday at a 7-Eleven store and has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of Faith Lindsey, who was last seen on Oct. 28 and reported missing by her family on Nov. 4. Washington is being held at the Oklahoma County Jail without bond.

At the request of the local Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) began helping with the case in November. Authorities found probable cause to arrest Washington after receiving information from Lindsey’s sister, Justice Lindsey.

Washington also allegedly provided a fabricated story to police about Faith Lindsey being shot.

"The more we spoke with him, the more his story began to fall apart as far as what had happened," said Seminole County Undersheriff Matt Haley.

Justice Lindsey claims to have received frantic text messages from Washington on the night her sister went missing.

“He texted me Monday night saying that he can’t find her. She’s missing, freaking out,” Justice Lindsey told local media. “She’s always contacted me. She knows my number by heart.”

After those initial messages from Washington, Justice Lindsey told police that she began to receive strange texts from her sister’s phone which seemed to have been written by someone else.

“She was misspelling a lot of things that night, and Faith, she has very good punctuation and spelling and that just wasn’t her,” Justice Lindsey said. “She kept trying to call me a lot, but hung up as soon as I answered, which is kind of suspicious.”

Authorities are still working to find Lindsey’s remains and are offering a $5,000 reward for any tip that leads investigators to the body.
