KEY POINTS

  • The Marlins continue to try and find ways to possibly land Bryan Reynolds from the Pirates
  • The Pirates have no interest in trading Reynolds, who is under contract until 2025
  • The Marlins are looking for more assets but will have to wait until the MLB lockout ends

With nothing to lose, the Miami Marlins are making sure that their interest in Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates remains the same.

According to a report by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Marlins still tried to pitch a deal to the Pirates for the 27-year-old outfielder before the MLB lockout.

Miami made the move despite being aware that the chances of success are not promising.

Reynolds hit .302 with 24 homers and 90 RBI last season, and it will take a huge offer to convince the Pirates to consider a deal.

To set the records straight, the Pirates are not interested in dealing away the All-Star player.

Reynolds is considered a player that is vital for Pittsburgh, someone they have control over until 2025.

While it appears that Reynolds is not going anywhere, the interest in his services will still be monitored by other teams.

The Marlins are just one of several teams who are keeping tabs on his situation.

Other MLB teams who have been linked to Reynolds include the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, and Atlanta Braves.

On their part, the Marlins may be just trying to see if the Pirates would have a change of heart at some point.

Considering the two teams engaged in a trade this past November for Jacob Stallings, it appears communication lines remain open between the two clubs.

Miami needs players they can place on offense and some positions, a reason why they have been aggressively looking at potential players.

Aside from Stallings, the Dolphins also added Joey Wendle last November from the Tampa Bay Rays. In exchange, they dealt Kameron Misner, CBS Sports reported.

Had it not been for the MLB lockout, more new faces would have been added to the mix on the part of the Marlins.

They have been talking to at least seven teams, but discussions were stalled with all league activities put on pause.
