The producers of “Modern Family” Season 8 are currently in negotiations with ABC for a possible ninth season.

While speaking with Deadline at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Tuesday, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey expressed his enthusiasm for the possible renewal of the hit sitcom. He added that even though the process may be complicated, they hope to see all the cast members return if ever Season 9 receives the green light.

“Anytime you are in a renegotiation, especially at this level, it’s going to be complicated. What I will say is there is a real enthusiasm on our side and on 20th’s side to try to make something happen. We all want to see how the show comes back next season,” he said.

Dungey added that if it was up to him alone, he would want “Modern Family” to go on for as long as possible. However, the most important thing is for the show to be picked up by the network first for at least another year. Other than “Modern Family,” Dungey also wants “The Middle” to be renewed.

Meanwhile, one of the recent developments from “Modern Family” Season 8 has to do with the casting of “Legends of Tomorrow” star Victor Garber, according to Entertainment Weekly. The actor will be playing the role of a chef who Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) becomes obsessed with. Claire and Chef Dumont will cross paths at the latter’s cooking class, to which she will also bring her daughter Haley (Sarah Hyland) along. As of late, Garber has only been tapped to appear in one episode of “Modern Family” Season 8.

“Modern Family” Season 8 airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC.
