A new "Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered" project is reportedly scheduled to launch this year, showcasing the much-awaited multiplayer mode of the hit first-person shooter title.

Last year, a group of "Call of Duty" fans in the modding community took the initiative to develop their very own version of the hit FPS shooter title, which they called "Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered" project. Based on the devs' discord Q&A, the mod will be a remaster of the "Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer running on "Black Ops 3" on PC.

The said mod will be released on gaming consoles sometime in 2021. "Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered" Project Lead Gonoftruth said in the Q&A that the team plans on releasing nine maps at the mod's launch. The team also shared some screenshots showing off some of the weapons and maps that they have remastered. Some of these locations include the popular Rust and Terminal maps.

Apart from those, these are also shots showcasing Deathstreaks. Fans can expect that the "Modem Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered" project will feature all the original title's best elements. As for the project's gameplay, the honor would be reserved for the lucky few who would be selected to participate in the mod's upcoming beta. Unfortunately, sign-ups are already closed, but fans could check out a live gameplay walkthrough of the mod's Rust map courtesy of the "MW2R MP" team.

Last year, Activision released the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered," but it only features the game's single-player mode. In a blog post, the video game publisher later revealed that they decided not to include the game's multiplayer. Activision said that "rather than release a separate, multiplayer experience as a standalone pack, Activision and Infinity Ward are looking to bring more classic map experiences to new life within the Modern Warfare universe as it continues to grow and build over time.“

Currently, the "Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered" project has no specific release date yet. If the game meets its earlier release window, fans will hear more news and update about the upcoming mod anytime soon.
