A 24-year-old mother allegedly threw her 1-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son out of the window of a Brooklyn, New York, apartment before jumping herself, authorities said.

The mother first threw the baby girl out of the window and then the boy from the second-floor apartment on Rockaway Parkway Saturday morning, NBC News reported, citing a statement from New York police. The woman, identified by New York Daily News as Dejhanay Jarrell, then jumped out after them.

The mother allegedly bashed the baby’s head into the concrete after they fell, and all three were naked, witnesses told New York Daily News.

The girl was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition, police said. The mother and son were also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said the woman was charged Saturday with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and two counts of child endangerment, according to New York Daily News.

It's unclear what triggered the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

A neighbor said she ran out to check after she heard the scream of a child and the sound of a boom.

"We saw the newborn, we started screaming," Shandie Harrison was quoted by the Daily News as saying. "It was three of them naked on the ground, the mom, the newborn baby, and another little child."

Harrison’s brother-in-law, Carl Chin, said he looked out the window upon hearing the commotion and saw the children lying on the ground. He told the outlet that when he looked up, he saw the mother naked and standing at the edge of the fire escape before leaping.

Chin claimed that the mother “kind of” landed on the two infants. He ran outside and called 911 after the incident.

Harrison claimed that she saw the mother allegedly holding the baby girl by the leg and pounding her head twice into the ground.

"The mom was asking for help. I can see that she was depressed," Harrison suggested. "I think that she wanted to kill the baby, but she wasn't in her right mind."

Chin said he jumped over the fence to reach the woman and the kids and struggled to take the newborn from the mother. Once he was able to do so, he asked the woman what was wrong.

“She actually said, ‘Please take care of my baby, take care of my daughter,’ after throwing them out the window. So there was the sign right there. Mentally she wasn’t stable,” Chin told the outlet. “It didn’t seem like she was angry at the kids. She was just completely gone.”

Neighbors said Jarrell lived alone with her children, according to the report.
