  • Motorola has a new flagship coming on May 14, the Edge Plus
  • The Edge Plus will be updated up to Android 12, Motorola said
  • The announcement came shortly after the Razr received the Android 10 update

Shortly after releasing the Android 10 Update for the Razr foldable, Motorola has announced that it will update the upcoming Edge Plus flagship smartphone up to Android 12. This means the device, which will come with Android 10 installed, will receive two major Android OS updates in the near future.

The Verge noted that Motorola's promised support for updates might not seem as “generous” as compared to Google's (which provides at least three years of updates for Pixel smartphones) and Apple's (known for providing support for longer than Google's), but at least the promise of two major Android OS updates is “better than nothing,” especially because Android OS updates are rare.

What's more, Motorola's promise of updating the device up to Android 12 is very important considering that the device doesn't come cheap at $999. Those who will purchase the device will indeed want long-term support for the price they will pay.

What to expect

That said, what can fans expect from the Motorola Edge Plus when it gets released on May 14? Here's a quick look at its specs and features.

  • Innards

The Edge Plus is a tall smartphone powered by a Snapdragon 865, backed by a generous 12GB of RAM. It comes with 256GB of storage. This allows the device to take on most, if not all smartphone tasks, pretty easily. The SoC also means the devices supports 5G networks.

  • Display

The device has a 6.70-inch FHD+ OLED “Endless Edge” display with 2,340 x 1,080 pixel resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It only has a 90Hz refresh rate, but this is better than most phones in the market at the moment.

  • Camera

The Edge Plus has a formidable camera setup at the back, comprised of a 108MP lens, a 16MP ultrawide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens and a time-of-flight sensor. Inside the punch hole at the top-left corner of the screen rests a 25MP selfie camera.

  • Battery, others

The device comes with a huge 5,000 mAh battery, which can be charged using 18W wired fast charging or 15W wireless fast charging. That battery can be used to charge other devices via 5W reverse wireless charging.

The device has a USB-C port for charging. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is rare for flagships of this price today.
