KEY POINTS

  • Motorola RAZR is scheduled to launch on Jan. 2020, and pre-orders start on Dec. 26, 2019
  • Motorola recently announced that the official launch is delayed
  • Motorola does not say when the pre-order will start or when will it officially launch the Motorola RAZR

In November, Motorola announced the foldable Motorola RAZR, which immediately became one of the most awaited smartphones this year. The smartphone maker used the nostalgic design of one of the most iconic flip phones with the new generation foldable display technology along with a unique hinge design that does not bend the display. The $1,500 foldable Motorola RAZR seems like a winner ahead of its launch, but it seems Motorola got cold feet and recently announced that the scheduled release would be delayed.

Just a few days before pre-orders are scheduled to start, Motorola suddenly delayed the launch of the foldable Motorola RAZR. In a statement issued by the company and shared by The Verge, is states:

Since its announcement in November, the new Motorola Razr has received unparalleled excitement and interest from consumers. Demand has been high, and as a result, has quickly outgrown supply predictions.

Motorola has decided to adjust Razr’s presale and launch timing to better meet consumer demand. We are working to determine the appropriate quantity and schedule to ensure that more consumers have access to razr at launch.

We do not anticipate a significant shift from our original availability timeline.

The company initially scheduled the start of pre-orders for the foldable Motorola RAZR on Dec. 26, 2019, with an official launch date happening on Jan. 9, 2020. Motorola does not think that the delay would be significant. However, it interesting to note that the company did not reveal any official launch date for the much-awaited foldable and nostalgic smartphone.

It can be recalled that the release of Samsung’s first-ever foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, was also delayed for several times. Huawei has also suffered the same fate with its Huawei Mate X. And, it appears that Motorola is also treading on the same route that its rivals once tread.

It is worth mentioning that, so far, every company trying to develop these new generations of foldable smartphones have run into some durability and manufacturing issues. Motorola does not say that it is having any problems with the foldable Motorola RAZR. As for the pre-order or launch date of the foldable Motorola RAZR, we will keep you posted as soon as we hear from the company.
