The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards aired on Monday and they did not come to play. From Taylor Swift opening up the show to the star-studded hip-hop closer featuring Fetty Wap, Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman and Wyclef Jean, MTV had viewers' minds blown -- to say the least.

This year's VMAs, held in Newark, New Jersey, marked the 35th year of handing out moonmen to artists across an array of genres. Taylor Swift was a big winner thanks to Swifties -- not surprising -- and fans tweeted Billie Eilish to a win for best new artist.

Of course, all the musicians rocked, but let's not forget about comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, the host of the MTV award show who treated audiences to a few laughs.

Getting back to the music though -- because that's what it's all about -- it's no secret that everyone that performed absolutely killed it but, if we have to pick (we do), here are the top six performances from the 2019 VMAs:

7. Shawn Mendez and Camila Cabello - "Senorita"

6. Lil Nas X - "Panini"

4.(TIE) Miley Cyrus - "Slide Away"

4. (TIE) Rosalia - "A Ningun Hombre," "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi," & "Aute Cuture"

3. Lizzo - "Truth Hurts" & "Good As Hell"

2. Taylor Swift - "You Need To Calm Down" & "Lover"

1. Missy Elliot - "Get Ur Freak On," "Lose Control" & More
