KEY POINTS

  • Superlek and Panpayak failed to pass both tests and are now ineligible to win the Flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix
  • Anacleto "L.A." Lauron failed to make weight, but opponent Jhanlo Sangiao made concessions for a catchweight
  • Meng Bo and Jenelyn Olsim's opening fight of the night is temporarily on ice

ONE Championship is set to hold its double-header event in Manila, Philippines on Saturday, December 3, but some fighters failed to make the cut in terms of the hydration test and the weighing scale ahead of the long-anticipated ONE 164 card.

Out of the 20 fighters slated for the event, the casualties of ONE Championship's strict pre-fight testing include Meng Bo, Superlek Kiatmoo9, Panpayak Jitmuangnon and Anacleto "L.A." Lauron.

Superlek was the seventh fighter of the day to test his luck on the hydration test and on the scale, initially passing the former, but he failed on the latter as he weighed in at 135.25 pounds–just a quarter pound shy of the limit.

With about 23 minutes remaining on the 4:00 PM local time deadline, Superlek was able to shed the weight needed, but he then failed on the hydration test—though registered an even 135 pounds unofficially.

As for his ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix finals opponent Panpayak, things did not go swimmingly for him as well.

His first attempt was a terrible miss as he failed in both pre-fight categories in his first attempt and again flubbed in his second attempt 30 minutes ahead of the deadline.

With one last Hail Mary attempt in Panpayak's back pocket, he again failed the hydration test.

It was later announced that they were both ineligible to fight for the Grand Prix title–though the fight may still continue at a catchweight of 135.25 if Panpayak passes his hydration test after the ceremonial weigh-ins at 6:00 PM local time.

Lauron carries the unfortunate distinction of being the lone Filipino on the stacked hometown card to miss weight after clocking in at 156.25 pounds on his second attempt, well over the 150-pound catchweight that he and opponent Jhanlo Sangiao initially agreed on.

However, their fight will continue as scheduled after Sangiao, the son of famed Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao, and his camp agreed to the catchweight.

China's Meng was the last of 20 fighters to attempt passing both categories and came in with three minutes to spare, but failed both her hydration test and tipping the scales at 125.5 pounds.

For context, her Filipina opponent Jenelyn Olsim cleared both bars with ease and weighed in at 124.75 pounds.

Much like Panpayak's situation, Meng is slated to appear at the ONE 164 ceremonial weigh-ins and will have another go at the hydration test and whatever her weight is at that time will be proposed to Olsim as a catchweight bout.

Panpayak vs. Superlek was initially slated to take place in the co-main event, while Meng and Olsim were set for the opening fight of the lead card.

Note: Sources have since confirmed with the International Business Times that Meng Bo has been cleared to compete and her scheduled match with Jenelyn Olsim will continue as planned in a catchweight bout.
