  • National Be Nice Day is celebrated by performing acts of kindness
  • Even the smallest gestures of kindness can make someone's day so much better
  • "Goodness is the only investment that never fails." - Henry David Thoreau

National Be Nice Day, which is also known as Do Something Nice Day, is an unofficial holiday that is celebrated annually on Oct. 5. It gives people an opportunity to bring goodness into the world and is observed by performing an act of kindness.

Even the smallest acts of kindness can make somebody’s day so much better, especially during these tough times when most of the world is suffering due to the impact of coronavirus.

Here are 5 things you can do to celebrate this occasion with your family and loved ones:

1. Performing An Act Of Kindness

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop

Do something nice for someone when you see an opportunity, no matter how small of a task it might be, cause even the smallest gestures can make all the difference.

For example, surprise your loved ones by making coffee or cooking their favorite meal for breakfast, giving them a big hug and reminding them how much you love them, doing household chores, getting them their favorite snacks, a surprise present, and more.

2. Calling A Loved One

"Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver." - Barbara De Angelis

Due to the impact of COVID-19, most of us have been staying away from family, friends, and dear ones. We can make the best out of this opportunity by contacting our grandparents, parents, friends, or relatives whom we haven't been able to meet lately and find out how they’re doing.

3. Complimenting Someone

"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up." - John Holmes

The best kinds of compliments are the unexpected ones. Put in the effort to compliment someone, even a stranger to make their day better. You can throw in a genuine and kind compliment about someone's outfit, their smile, their sense of humor, their cooking skills, and more. You can also express gratitude to someone by telling them how much you appreciate their help and kindness.

4. Doing Something Nice For Yourself

"Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind." - Henry James

In Today’s world where self-love is extremely neglected, remind yourself of its importance by doing something nice for yourself by taking some time to focus on something you really wanted to do like reading a book, watching your favorite show, pampering yourself with a lengthy warm bath, having your favorite meal, or relaxing while listening to the music of your choice.

5. Contributing Towards A Meaningful Cause

"Goodness is the only investment that never fails." - Henry David Thoreau

Make the world a better place by volunteering or donating to a meaningful and humanitarian cause that you’re passionate about. It could be anything, for example, planting a tree, donating to orphanages, to protect animals, to help people suffering from poverty, and more.

Bonus: Show Some Extra Love To Your Pets/Animals

If you have pets at your home, spend some extra time with them or give them additional treats to make their day. You can also reach out to a stray in the area or the animal shelters to donate food, beds, toys, and more to shower them some love and care on the occasion.
