National Son and Daughter Day is marked annually on Aug. 11 to celebrate the children who bring joy to the parents. It is a day for parents and their children to come together and spend some quality time.

According to an article dated Aug. 20, 1944, cited by National Day Calender, J. Henry Dusenberry first pursued the idea of a Sons’ and Daughters’ Day. The thought occurred to him after hearing a child ask why there was no such occasion to celebrate both sons and daughters.
