National Sweetest Day, which is usually celebrated on the third Saturday in October, falls on Oct. 17 this year. It is celebrated to express love and care to the ones closest to you.

Originally named "Sweetest Day of the Year," the day was created by confectioner Herbert Birch Kingston in 1921 with an intention to look after those who need extra attention by giving them small tokens of love such as cards and gifts.

  • "Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more." ― Bob Marley

  • In the flush of love's light, we dare be brave. And suddenly we see that love costs all we are, and will ever be. Yet it is only love which sets us free." ― Maya Angelou
  • "Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead." ― Oscar Wilde
