The Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed the signing of Demetrius Jackson, who has played 45 games in the NBA after being drafted 45th overall on the 2016 NBA Draft. He spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-way but played just six games before being waived in January.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Demetrius Jackson, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released,” the team said in a statement on their official website.

The point guard has reportedly signed with the Lakers on an Exhibit 10 contract. According to the Los Angeles Times, the contract is a one-year minimum deal that can also be converted into a two-way deal but will not count against a team’s salary cap. The player can also earn a bonus of up to $50,000 if he is assigned to the G League and remains there for at least 60 days.

Jackson averaged a career-high 3.7 points in just 6.5 minutes per game last season. He also appeared in eight games for the Delaware Blue Colts in the G League and averaged 19.4 points, 7.4 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

The Lakers have used their 20th and final training camp roster spot to sign Jackson and will run the rule over the Notre Dame point guard. Jackson has also previously spent time with Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and most recently played in the summer league for Portland Trail Blazers.

Jackson averaged 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 16.6 minutes per game, which were not eye-catching but enough to earn a spot on the Lakers training roster. It is unclear what his chances are of making the main roster ahead of the 2019-20 season with the Lakers now considered among the favorites for the 2019-20 NBA championship.
