  • Kevin Durant is one of the Brooklyn Nets’ four players tested positive for the virus
  • He joins Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Christian Wood
  • Durant is asymptomatic and encouraged people to stay quarantined

Now, it is indeed more than basketball.

After the confirmed cases of coronavirus to Utah Jazz’ center Rudy Gobert and star guard Donovan Mitchell, and Detroit Pistons’ big man Christian Wood, the NBA was hit once again by COVID-19 as Brooklyn Nets injured star Kevin Durant tested positive for the virus.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported that four players from the Nets tested positive, though he did not name drop the names of the players. That would outnumber the total number of positive cases the NBA currently has after Wood acquired the virus.

The Brooklyn Nets social media released their official statement about the issue. “Four Brooklyn Nets players have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Of the four, one player is exhibiting symptoms while three are asymptomatic. All four players are presently isolated and under the care of team physicians,” the team said on their press release. Asymptomatic is the term used when a person tested positive for the virus but is not showing any symptoms.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania, later on, tweeted that one of the four players was the two-time Finals MVP. The 31-year old Durant said nothing but encouraging words – “We’re going to get through this.”

The NBA suspended the games for the rest of the season after Gobert, who was listed as out on their game due to an illness, tested positive. The Jazz was about to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in Chesapeake Energy Arena before the officials decided to cancel the game before tip-off. The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year was the first player to be tested positive for the coronavirus. Then, Mitchell tested positive days later.

The Nets played the Los Angeles Lakers last week, March 11, before the league announced that the suspension will be league-wide. Brooklyn won their match-up against the Lakers, 104-102, and raised their record to 30-34 win-loss card before the postponement.
