KEY POINTS

  • The Nets are open to trading DeAndre Jordan but only if the price is right
  • The Nets are likely to trim down their team expenses
  • A Jordan trade may not sit well with Durant, Harden and Irving

The Brooklyn Nets were hardly able to pull off some good moves this summer due to limitations in the available budget.

The next recourse would be to deal off some assets, and it appears DeAndre Jordan could be one of them.

Nets general manager Sean Marks responded to questions on whether the All-Star center would be a candidate for a trade.

He responded bluntly but emphasized that it would take a good offer for Brooklyn to agree to a trade involving Jordan.

“When you have a good team, a good roster, people are obviously going to make calls. And from a GM standpoint, if we’re not having calls around the league then none of us would be doing our job. That’s what we do. Whether the roster looks the same in a month or two I really don’t know. But as it stands now, DeAndre is certainly part of this roster, part of this team moving forward,” Marks stated in a report by Brian Lewis of the New York Post.

There are reportedly several teams interested in the 33-year-old center, and it’s not hard to figure out why.

He may not offer the eye-popping numbers but remains an effective big man any team would love.

In the two seasons he has spent with the nets, the 6-foot-11 cager has averaged 7.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and a block in 21.9 minutes of action.

These are not far off from his career averages although there is a notable dip.

But part of that is because Jordan is playing more as a backup role with the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving at the front.

All are good friends and there are suggestions that the comments of Marks may not sit well with the three superstars in the team.

However, Durant, Harden and Irving know it is a business. If a trade is made, it is for the best for the team.

Considering Jordan owns has two years left in his contract and is due roughly $19.6 million, the move is likely meant to address salary cap concerns.

For now, Jordan remains with the Nets. But anything can happen in the coming weeks.

Although his performance has dipped, there is no denying that Jordan remains a force to reckon with, especially if he gets ample playing time and higher responsibilities from any NBA team.
