  • Steph Curry joins elite list of players to score at least 60 points in a game
  • Curry shames critics with hot-shooting antics against the Blazers
  • Curry needs to do more to help the Dubs perform well this NBA season

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has drawn criticism early on this 2020-21 NBA season for his performance and the team’s struggles.

The only way for the three-time champion to shut those off was by playing good basketball. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player did just that at the expense of the Portland Trail Blazers.

He registered a new career-high when he dropped 62 points in leading the Warriors over the Blazers, 137-122. Curry's last shot was a three-pointer that sent the entire Dubs bench into a frenzy.

Curry was 18-of-31 in that game, including 8-of-16 from the three-point area and going 18-of-19 from the charity stripe.

Aside from his scoring splurge, the 30-year-old also had five rebounds and four assists.

The 62-point explosion of the six-time All-Star also bested his previous personal best of 54 points. Curry did the feat in a loss to the New York Knicks in 2013.

The new record adds Curry to an elite list of Warriors who have scored at least 60 points in a game. Among the players in that list include current teammate Klay Thompson, Rick Barry, Joe Fulks and Wilt Chamberlain.

Thompson welcomed his "Splash Brother" to the club in a Twitter post.

"It was just a brilliant performance," head coach Steve Kerr said after the game. "Not just because of his talent but just because of the way he carries himself, the way he leads, and we are incredibly blessed as an organization to have Steph leading the way, and what a performance tonight."

Social media just went off with Curry’s remarkable feat. Among those who reacted to it were Magic Johnson, Dwyane Wade and his brother Seth Curry.

“You just try to continue and stay humble and stay in the moment,” Curry said after his 62-point scoring binge. Not long after, teammate Damion Lee gave him the traditional post-game water bath.

It was a bit of a relief for the Dubs who have been drawing criticism for their current run. Things are not expected to be easy for the Warriors although things are looking up.

Thompson is not expected to play this season and they recently lost Marquese Chriss for the season.

Draymond Green is back in harness, but the three-time All-Star is far from his peak. In all, Curry will have to do more to help the Warriors this year.
