KEY POINTS

  • Spurs will host Jazz on Monday
  • Spurs are underdogs at home
  • Jazz look to bounce back from loss to Rockets

The San Antonio Spurs have fallen victims to three-straight tightly contested games. They aim to get over the hump when the Utah Jazz visits them inside the AT&T Center on Wednesday.

The Spurs lost to the Chicago Bulls Monday by a precarious point, 110-109, after blowing a relatively insurmountable advantage in the payoff period. The Bulls outscored them in the fourth, 35-24. The team is out of the Playoff picture at the moment as they are two and a half games behind the Memphis Grizzlies who are the No. 8 team in the West.

The Jazz is still at the top three of the conference with a 32-14 record just below the Lakers and the Clippers.

Spurs

Gregg Popovich is pleading for consistency from his boys. At the ninth spot in the West, the Spurs will have to maintain their poise, especially on nip and tuck games as every single win from here on counts in their campaign to keep their post-season appearance streak alive.

DeMar DeRozan played a near-flawless game on Monday save for the waning seconds of the match where he missed a potential game-tying free throw. He finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds.

The absence of LaMarcus Aldridge was obviously felt by the team. Patty Mills tried to provide the spark offensively with 25 points off the bench but to no avail.

Jazz

The Utah Jazz suffered their own defeat on Monday at that hands of a James Harden and Russell Westbrook-less Houston Rockets, 126-117.

Scoring was not a problem for them as they shot 50.6 percent from the field. However, it was their failure to protect the ball that spelled the difference in the match. They committed 18 errors which propelled the Rockets to pour in 26 points.

Donovan Mitchell exploded for 35 points but he also had his share in the team’s total infractions after turning the ball over three times.

Odds and Trends

The Spurs are underdogs at home with a +5.5 point handicap.

The Spurs are 10-2-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight-up loss and 4-1 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

The Jazz is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game and 6-0 in their last 6 games following an ATS loss.

Over is 8-1 in Spurs' last 9 vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 7-0 in Jazz's last 7 games following an ATS loss.

Under is 4-0 in Spurs' last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
