KEY POINTS

  • Joel Embiid is currently out with an injured shoulder
  • Jeopardy! asked a contestant about Embiid and Philly’s mantra before saying “Do a 180”
  • He changed his nickname after the on-air mistake

Now, it is safe to say that the fun Joel Embiid is back on Twitter? Thanks to a game show blunder.

The Philadelphia 76ers star big man quickly reacted to a viral video of a contestant in the game show Jeopardy! where he did not give the correct answer to a question about the team’s all-star center.

The contestant named Paul, who happens to be the one with the lead, selected the $1000 question under category “Current Sports Nicknames” and the question was about the Sixers and its Cameroonian center. “Joel Embiid in 2019 won the trademark for this nickname of his that also describes the 76ers’ strategy of improving the team.”

Paul replied that may have had Embiid himself burst into laughter. “Do a 180?” the contestant said before host Alex Trebek revealed the answer as “The Process”.

The video clip may have only been less than 20 seconds, but JoJo lives on the internet and was able to see how that sequence went like. Some players may just shrug it off, but a classic Joel Embiid is what we saw on Twitter. He changed his name to Joel “Do a 180” Embiid ??? in reference to the game show episode.

The former Kansas center also shared an old video of himself trying a dunk attempt that failed as he found himself past the board of the rim when he turned around. That left him with no choice but to pass the ball out that resulted in a turnover.

Years back, Nik Stauskas embraced the nickname that went viral as the closed captioning during their game is displaying “Sauce Castillo” whenever his name is being mentioned in the coverage. He’s been using that nickname since that day.

The fans are happy to see Embiid back trolling people after hibernating from doing it to focus on basketball since their heartbreaking loss to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season. But here he is, the fun Joel Embiid that the fans love.
