  • Kevin Love could negotiate a buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • The Golden State Warriors are expected to pursue Love
  • The five-time All-Star could help the Warriors in their bid next season

Kevin Love’s time with the Cleveland Cavaliers may be coming to a close very soon.

The 2016 NBA champion was brought to the team thanks to a massive trade that helped the Cavaliers win the franchise’s first title and the first major sports trophy for the state of Ohio since their 1964 NFL Championship win.

However, after LeBron James’ journey to the Western Conference with the Los Angeles Lakers that resulted in a championship in 2020, the Cavs have been undergoing a massive rebuild.

The team is currently being led by Collin Sexton, Darius Garland and recently acquired big man Jarrett Allen from the Brooklyn Nets.

Love just does not fit the Cavaliers’ timetable as he is the oldest player on the roster, and his style of play is not meshing well with Sexton and Garland’s offense.

New rumors suggest that a move to the Golden State Warriors could be in the cards for Love.

San Francisco Chronicle writer Rusty Simmons reported that the Warriors could be making a move to acquire a key piece of their 2016 Finals opponents.

Love would be a solid fit for the Warriors as they look for another way back into title contention.

The former Minnesota Timberwolf still has two years left on his current contract, and if a buyout does happen, a move to Golden State may be in his best interests.

Love signed his four-year, $120 million extension with the Cavs back in 2018, a move that has caused some disappointment from Cavs faithful as the 32-year-old’s production continued to dip from then on.

He only averaged 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds last year, a far cry from the double-double machine of yesteryear.

The five-time All-Star’s former running mates in James and Kyrie Irving have all went to greener pastures, and he may soon leave the team as well to go for his second ring.

He might not be as effective as he once was in his prime, but he still is a serviceable big man that’s still good enough for a double-double threat every once in a while.

The Warriors may have some competition for Love’s services as it has been reported that the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers are all vying for his services.

“I can still be the player that I was before I had a couple of tough injuries. This is the best I’ve felt in a long time. I feel like I have a lot to prove, but I feel that way coming into every season. Obviously, it’s been unlucky and unfortunate. Injuries happen,” said Love.
