The future of Carmelo Anthony remains unknown, although most believe he will be making his NBA return next season. The Los Angeles Lakers are at the top of the list, with most believing that the 34-year-old will be seriously considered because of his ties with LeBron James.

Anthony is an offensive option that any NBA team could flourish well. However, Melo’s brand of mid-range, isolation-heavy offense has failed to pan out well with the modern age – a reason why pundits believe he has found it hard to latch on to a new team, according to the Bleacher Report. Regardless, most have kept the faith and believe the 10-time NBA All-Star can still make it next season – led no less by Anthony’s wife Lala which was covered in a previous report.

In the event that he fails to hook on to an NBA team next season, playing overseas is seen as one option for the 2013 NBA Scoring Champion. In fact, there were initial reports that Anthony had signed with the New Zealand Breakers in the NBL. Unfortunately, the Breakers denied these rumors thus quashing speculations, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Regardless if this is true or not, it means that Anthony does have options to consider. And while most would say that the former third overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft could have easily considered signing overseas after he was waived by the Chicago Bulls, it seems to indicate that Melo prefers to play in the NBA than abroad.

Left idle for some time now, it will be interesting what Anthony considers in the event that he is left out in the cold before the 2019-20 NBA season starts. Some have hinted of retirement although it appears Anthony is far from done. Aside from the Lakers, the New York Knicks have also been mentioned as a possible destination. After leaving Gotham unceremoniously in 2017, it should be noted that it was his disagreement with Phil Jackson that triggered that trade call and not his relationship with the Knicks organization.

One thing that any NBA team may consider before getting Anthony is how well he can blend in. Since leaving the Denver Nuggets back in 2011, Melo has failed to fit in with the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Houston Rockets. If he does get considered with the Lakers, it may be up to James and Frank Vogel to try and turn things around for the embattled scoring forward.
