Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers certainly still has a lot to give and any NBA team could benefit having him around. The Portland Trail Blazers could be that team, filling in a hole up front by getting the 30-year-old to the fold although there are money matters in play. Love holds a $120 million contract spread over four years – numbers that the Blazers will have to work on if they want the former NBA champion suiting up for them next season.

The Blazers are in dire need of an upgrade in the wings and Love could be a perfect fit. After trying out Al-Farouq Aminu and Moe Harkless last season, there is no denying that both lacked the numbers to aid the likes of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, Fansided reported. Aminu is headed to free agency while Harkless will be earning about $11 million for the 2019-20 NBA season. In terms of a financial match, Portland will need to add in more assets to acquire Love from the Cavs.

Most NBA teams are wary of pulling off trades mainly due to the hefty contract that players like Love carry. However, such is a price to pay if the team is to remain competitive in the league. Initially, it would seem that the Blazers have little to none trading chips on the table. The closest perhaps is a mix of Gary Trent, Evan Turner, and Meyers Leonard being sent to Cleveland in exchange for the fifth overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft.

As to whether the Cavs would bite would be anyone’s guess as well. In a previous post, it was mentioned that Cleveland was aggressively offering the five-time NBA All-Star to interested teams. Most were unsurprisingly holding out, seeing how they would inherit the monstrous contract of Love for the coming years. While he has proven to be an effective double-double machine for any team he plays for, Love’s state of health has factored in as of late. He played only 22 games during the 2018-19 NBA season.

Love is one of multiple veteran NBA stars on the Cavs end expected to be dangled this summer. Tristan Thompson is another one although there is no denying Love can be a big asset to any team. The Blazers could skim the market for other options in the wings. But if they are looking for a tested veteran who knows what winning is all about, Kevin Love knows best.
