The Los Angeles Lakers are riding out the rest of the 2018-19 NBA season and the blame game and what-ifs have started. At the top of the list of criticism is LeBron James although a former NBA player believes it is not entirely on him.

Baron Davis shared his insights on the Lakers’ ride this season and things got a bit nostalgic. Kobe Bryant came to mind and the 39-year-old believes that a 34-year-old Kobe could lead the current pack of Lakers to the NBA playoffs, TMZ Sports reported.

For most, the age part may raise some questions. However, that was actually something directed to LeBron James who is currently 34 although Davis was quick to explain that the three-time NBA champion is not entirely to blame for the Lakers inability to make the postseason wars.

Davis singled out the fact that the Lakers were hit by injuries to key players – including James. There was also that unfortunate trade pitch where multiple players were mentioned. With the deal fizzling, he believes that bouncing back after hearing your name on the trading block is another factor that affected the Lakers’ push for an NBA playoff spot, Complex reported.

"It's tough to play for somebody and give your heart and soul to somebody and your name is on the trading block. So when you're young it's hard to bounce back from that sh--," he said.

Davis’ sentiments sound legit although it would be best to stress that this is his opinion. True enough, James should not be entirely to blame for the plight of the Lakers this NBA season. Instead, the Lakers need to find their superstar help and this is what most are expecting from team president Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Rob Pelinka in the coming months.

There will be plenty of damage control needed for the Lakers to get back on the winning track. James will still be around and all eyes will be on the available free agents Los Angeles will be targeting. Anthony Davis could still be a target and so are the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, and Kyrie Irving.

The Lakers will have options although so will other NBA teams out to revamp their rosters. There will be casualties along the way, meaning some veterans are likely to be booted out. Some young players could be taken out as well or even packaged in trades. It will be a drama-filled summer for the Lakers who hope to finally get the right mix to revert to their winning ways.
