  • Heat inquired about Draymond Green availability
  • Andre Iguodala acquisition shuts down Green option
  • Heat likely to get Danila Gallinari next

The Miami Heat are looking to ramp up their roster for the coming NBA playoffs by adding more scorers. As most know, that has been resolved now with the acquisition of Andre Iguodala. But it seems that the South Beach squad had a contingency plan in Draymond Green.

According to Greg Leif Sylander of Five Reasons Sports Network, the Heat expressed interest in Green. Better yet, it appears the three-time NBA champion was also aware of it. But considering the situation of Green with the Golden State Warriors, a deal held low chances of materializing. Both caps are hit by the hard cap, there is a trade kicker and a third team was needed to make it work.

Most importantly, seeing the Dubs deal away the 29-year-old cager was a long shot. Green signed a four-year extension with the Warriors worth $100 million before the season which will kick off by next NBA season. Green was not among the names from the Dubs' side up for trade, further dousing water on the alleged plans of the Miami Heat.

As most know by now, all these should be water under the bridge unless the Heat still plan to pursue Green. They already got Iguodala from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Justise Winslow. Miami will reportedly offer the 36-year-old swingman a two-year $30 million contract extension according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

There are rumors that the Heat are not done yet. They are reportedly targeting Danilo Gallinari of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Similar to Iguodala, it appears the Italian will also be getting a contract extension if the deal is sealed, ESPN reported.

With the Heat seemingly getting the right pieces to improve their playoff chances, all wishful plans to take in Green are likely over. But the bad news for Miami is the shoulder injury suffered by Jimmy Butler. The 30-year-old left the third quarter of that match with a strained shoulder and will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of that injury.

The Heat are currently at fourth spot of the Eastern Conference with a 34-16 record. They are primed to make the playoffs and team president Pat Riley is making sure they are well prepared. Iguodala is in and Gallinari is likely to follow. But if Butler sits out, head coach Erik Spoelstra needs someone else to step up.
