KEY POINTS

  • James Harden and Steph Curry are two of the NBA's biggest names
  • Both Harden and Curry are MVP caliber players and have won multiple accolades throughout their careers
  • Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins said that Harden is the better player compared to Curry

The NBA today is dominated by players who could score at ease within any range on the floor. With how offensive superstars have changed the game, former champion Kendrick Perkins said James Harden is better than Steph Curry.

This take caught the attention of many given how the two have had intense matchups throughout the course of their careers. While the two are both backcourt players, the styles of these individuals differ to a certain extent. One similarity they pose however is the green light they have from anywhere on the floor given how they’re among the best scorers in the world.

These players have tallied individual success in their time in the league, as both are MVP caliber players. The more recent winner of the award was Harden in the 2017-2018 season where he averaged 30.4 points, 8.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds an outing.

On the other hand, Curry has also bagged two regular-season MVPs as he won in back-to-back years in 2015 and 2016. To add to these, Curry also has three rings with the Golden State Warriors and was a pivotal piece in the Bay Area team dynasty.

Given these, Perkins shared that Curry can only outshine Harden in the shooting department. When it comes to the whole offensive package, the former Boston Celtic emphasized that Harden was the better player.

"When I'm looking at all-around and the all-around player, the skill set and who brings more to the table, its James Harden," Perkins said on ESPN, by way of NBC Sports.

To add to these, Perkins mentioned how Harden was able to turn around the Rockets organization when he entered the team. Coming from a stellar run with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Harden’s emergence as Houston’s star has elevated the Rockets into an elite squad in the NBA.

“As soon as he stepped foot into the Rockets’ franchise, he made that franchise relevant again,” Perkins added.

Despite this, a recent poll by ESPN’s First Take indicates that Twitter users see otherwise from Perkins’ point. The shooter from Davidson is leading the rankings with a considerable margin.

Regardless of all the talk, it will still be interesting to see how these two top athletes matchup in succeeding years to come.
