  • Dion Waiters could end up in Lakers
  • Lakers still shopping for free agents
  • Waiters could provide scoring punch off the bench

The possibility of Dion Waiters playing in Los Angeles is revived as the former fourth overall draft pick is reported that he might still play for the Lakers after all.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN said in the Hoop Collective podcast that there is a high chance Waiters could crack a spot in the Lakers' roster given that he is also under the Klutch Sports Group that also handles LeBron James.

"I don't know if Dion Waiters is an answer. They're going to give Dion a look. They had a meeting with him last week. I expect they will have a workout with him in the short-term and see what kind of condition he's in. They're mulling it over and it's because they need some sort of perimeter player who can score a little bit," Windhorst said. "Dion doesn't just have to convince the Lakers. He has to convince LeBron."

Waiters were sent by the Miami Heat at the trade deadline to the Memphis Grizzlies who then waived the 28-year-old, compensating him with the remaining pay of his for the rest of the season and the $12.6 million for the 2020-2021 season.

He had been in several controversies at the onset of the season, being suspended by the Heat multiple times due to "detrimental conduct" that derailed his progress on playing.

After the series of suspensions, Waiters played in three games with the Heat in January, only to be shipped the month after.

In an earlier statement during one of his three suspensions, Heat president Pat Riley said, "There were a number of unacceptable incidents this week, culminating with his unprofessional conduct on the bench last night."

Despite this, Waiters' abilities on the court could not be discounted, most particularly his knack in scoring which could be a spark for the Lakers off the bench especially with the Playoffs just around the corner.
