  • NBA could jump to the playoffs upon resumption
  • NBA may scrap the rest of the 2019-20 season
  • Milwaukee Bucks could be crowned NBA champions

The NBA is one of the major sports leagues keeping tabs on the coronavirus issue to figure out its next course of action.

The league suspended games last week for 30 days but it appears that it will be even longer. With the Center for Disease Control and Protection announcing that all in-person events involving 50 or more are to be called off for the next eight weeks, league commissioner Adam Silver may be left with a tough task of deciding what to do next.

The 2019-20 NBA season is in the homestretch of the season although several teams were still giving chase. The race for the last bus to the playoffs is more heated in the Western Conference with the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings trying to dislodge the Memphis Grizzlies. But this could all be futile if the NBA were to consider several suggested options.

The first option is to proceed immediately to proceed to the NBA playoffs once the league resumes. At the rate that the pandemic is pushing the sports calendar, it appears a plausible late would be to see the season resume in June, ESPN reported. Per Adrian Wojnarowski, jumping to the postseason wars would be undesirable but better than calling off the rest of the 2019-20 NBA season.

"Everything’s on the table for the league, and they know there are a lot of hard days and hard times ahead between now and when the NBA could even potentially consider a return,” Wojnarowski said.

Seeing the current season end abruptly would be a big disappointment to everyone. But the fact of the matter is that no one has control over what is going on right now. The threat of the COVID-19 is real and the safety of all is important. The only question now is who will the NBA crown champion? If records are to be based, the Milwaukee Bucks would be it and the Los Angeles Lakers as runner-ups.

This would be a bit half-cooked for whoever ends up getting crowned champion. Most know that a title conquest is sweeter if a team works for it. It would be the second title for the Bucks, having won its first back in 1971. But of course, they would not be spared from criticism - something that may haunt them once everything goes back to normal.
