Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton is aware that many are not too thrilled to see him calling the shots because he has yet to lead the purple and gold into the magic eight of the NBA Western Conference. His relationship with LeBron James has been questioned on several occasions, but the 38-year-old mentor claims that all is well between them.

"LeBron and I get along just fine,” Walton told reporters when he landed at LAX in a report from TMZ Sports.

The son of NBA great Bill Walton drew attention back in 2015-16 NBA season when he was named interim coach in place of Steve Kerr who needed to undergo rehabilitation for his back.

Several records were set by Walton at the time. This included the Warriors winning their first four games by a total margin of 100 points and leading the Warriors to a 16th consecutive win to start the season – ironically against the Lakers.

That ended up being his audition to snag the Lakers head coaching post, replacing Byron Scott. While he has improved the team’s win-loss records compared to his predecessor, it remains that most are expecting more, especially with James around.

Before James agreed to join the Lakers, Walton had to work with a clan of youngsters and some short-term veterans. Since taking over, he has proven to be a more effective coach than Scott, improving incrementally by year. For this NBA season, the Lakers are more than likely to improve their win-loss record if all goes well. Currently toting a 28-29 card, Walton and the Lakers should improve on last season’s 35-47 record if not better.

Walton believes that the Lakers have a chance to make the playoffs but will need to work for it. They are behind the Los Angeles Clippers and the Sacramento Kings as of this writing. The last time Los Angeles made it to the NBA playoffs was during the 2012-13 season with a 45-37 win-loss card. They lost in the first round to the San Antonio Spurs 4-0.

Despite saying that all is well between him and James, Walton is also aware that it is the NBA star’s camp who want a coaching change, something that was previously reported here. But instead of addressing it, Walton simply cracked a smile and is likely keeping his opinion to himself for now.

Other than that, Walton seems pretty composed as of the moment, enjoying his time as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. On how long this will be remains to be seen.
