KEY POINTS

  • Warriors trying out players via 10-day contracts
  • Dubs already preparing for massive rebuild this summer
  • Kerr possibly looking for players who can fit in with Dubs system

The Golden State Warriors are out of it this 2019-20 NBA season although they still have to play out their remaining games. The main problem for them right now is the availability of players. Having dealt away some players at the NBA trade deadline plus the fact that some are injured, the Dubs are reportedly leaning on giving select cagers 10-day contracts to fill up their open roster spots.

Two players who recently went that route are Zach Norvell Jr. and Jeremy Pargo, The Athletic reported. Unfortunately, it appears both did not meet the expectations of head coach Steve Kerr and were not given a second 10-day contract. Norvell played in three games averaging just 3.3 points, a far cry from his G-League norm of 15.2 points per game in 29.7 minutes of action.

Pargo, on the other hand, has spent recent years playing overseas. The last time he saw action in the NBA was during the 2012-13 season. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 33-year-old saw action in three games for the Dubs, averaging 8.3 points in 14.7 minutes of playing time, USA Today reported. One thing both had in common is that they were shooting it well from the three-point territory. Norvell had a 37.5 percent three-point shooting clip while Pargo shot it at 42.9 percent.

No names have been mentioned on who the Warriors intend to target. But it appears that they are looking for shooters who can blend in with Kerr's system. Of course, Golden State needs other departments that need addressing. That includes rebounding and defense.

Seeing how the Warriors are giving everyone a chance, there are a lot of free agents who could fit their needs. That list includes J.R. Smith, Dion Waiters or even Isaiah Thomas. It seems to hint that the Warriors are also skimming the market for players who can fit in moving forward. Most know how they masterfully revived the careers of Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala, something they could be possibly doing again.

With a forgettable 12-43 win-loss record in the NBA Western Conference, the Warriors are only 27 games away from wrapping this season. They are expected to rebuild this summer but Kerr appears to be starting as early as now for plausible candidates.
