KEY POINTS

  • Derrick Rose has been consistent all season for the Detroit Pistons
  • 76ers and Lakers have gained interest in Rose
  • Detroit Pistons currently at ninth place in the Eastern Conference

Derrick Rose has been consistent all season for the Detroit Pistons. The crowd-favorite point guard has put up big numbers for his team when given sufficient minutes. He’s currently averaging 18.3 points, 5.9 assists and shooting 50.3% from the field per game. In his last ten games, Rose has put up averages of 22.7 points per game while shooting 52.8% from the floor.

The former MVP of the league is still contributing big minutes for his team and remains to be a valuable asset for any contender. These teams include the Philadelphia 76ers and the Western Conference-leading LA Lakers. League sources say that the 76ers and the Lakers are seeking a point guard for the “stretch run”.

Kyle Kuzma has been thrown in the trade rumor discussion and has a possibility of being shipped if a good enough offer comes along. The 76ers also have possible assets to give for Rose with young players such as Zhaire Smith and Jonah Bolden showing a positive upside. With the Pistons fighting for a spot to make a playoff berth, the team has options to play around with before the trade deadline comes.

Although Rose is said to be happy with his team in Detroit, the front office executives are still in a position to make a decision by February 6. With their 16-28 record currently sitting at ninth place in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons are left with Rose’s contract – $7.6 million with one year remaining. Rebuilding might be on the horizon for the Pistons with star forward Blake Griffin undergoing knee surgery earlier in January.

Rose is the youngest MVP in NBA history but he has been haunted by a series of injuries. The past few years have shown a revival in his career with consistent production and highlight every once in a while. Although his athleticism is far from the 2011 Rose that dominated the league, he’s still a worthy player to pick up in any team. His veteran presence and experience can go well with teams looking to expand their roster.
