KEY POINTS

  • Thunder continue roster cleanup send Green to Sixers for Horford
  • The Horford deal could be part of a salary dump
  • Thunder are expected to deal away more players

Danny Green was not expected to play a single game for the Oklahoma City Thunder after being acquired in the Dennis Schroder deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

That came to fruition recently when the three-time NBA champion was dealt with the Philadelphia 76ers for Al Horford and a couple of future picks.

Green is set to join the Sixers who are likewise trying to tweak their lineup in preparation for the 2020-21 NBA season. The Thunder also sent Terrance Fergusson as part of the trade, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported.

Green becomes another veteran player that the Thunder have sent away as the club continues its aggressive rebuilding. Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder have been moved out to the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers respectively.

Another name that could be moving soon is Danilo Gallinari. The Thunder are in talks with the Dallas Mavericks about a potential sign-and-trade deal for the Italian player per sources according to Babcock Hoops.

More names are expected to follow with the names of Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre and Steven Adams being floated as also moving to different clubs soon, Hoops Hype reported.

For the Sixers, Green should bring in tons of experience having played for three NBA champion teams thus far.

Though his numbers last season were not that impressive, all that could change with the playing time he may get under first-year head coach Doc Rivers.

In the 2019-20 regular season, Green played in 68 games averaging 8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 24.8 minutes of action.

He was one of the Los Angeles Lakers' trusted defenders and played mostly as one of the supporting casts behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

As for Horford, it will be interesting what plans the Thunder have for the 34-year-old player. After signing a questionable $109 million four-year contract with the Sixers last season, things did not turn out well.

He is still owed $81 million for the next three years. This move may be part of a salary dump. Should this be the case, a buyout or seeing Horford getting waived is a possibility?
