With all of the twists and turns in the Anthony Davis trade saga, it could be easy to forget that several other big-name NBA stars could be playing for different teams in 2019. One such player is Kyrie Irving, whose name has been connected to Davis throughout the past few weeks.

However, according to a report from Sports Ilustrated’s Chris Mannix, Irving is frustrated with the narrative surrounding himself and other stars who could be on the move in the near future. According to an unidentified player who used to play with Irving, the Boston Celtics point guard is annoyed by the idea that what other players do will affect his decision-making.

Irving has the option to opt out of his current contract and become a free agent this offseason. Several rumors have suggested he could potentially join Kevin Durant on the New York Knicks, in the event that Durant leaves the Golden State Warriors and decides to come to New York.

The Knicks traded young star Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks last week. The move was seen as the first step in the Knicks’ courtship of at least one superstar player in the offseason.

He could also sign a new deal with the Celtics that would let the team have both Irving and Davis on the roster. There is some speculation that Irving’s decision in either of these cases depends on what the other player does, and Mannix’s report indicated Irving is upset at that notion.

According to the report, Irving finds it “disrespectful” to think he will do anything other than what he wants to do.

Irving supposedly wanted out of Cleveland because he wanted to lead a team rather than be in the shadow of LeBron James. He is closer to the top option in Boston, and though he is having a stellar individual season, the team has been somewhat disappointing so far. The Celtics are third in the east right now, after nearly going to the Finals last year.

He even recently called James to apologize for not understanding how difficult it was to lead a team.

This could be an indication that Irving will not wait for Davis, Durant or anyone else to make a move before he decides what to do this summer. He promised he would re-sign with the Celtics last year, but has wavered a bit on that promise recently.
