KEY POINTS

  • The NBA players have arrived at Orlando Florida's bubble for the modified season
  • The meals served to the athletes drew flak online after it was compared to the infamous Fyre Festival
  • Fans online also compared the meals to airline food

The modified NBA season in Orlando was off to a shaky start on social media with how people responded to the food served to the athletes. It was Denver Nuggets’ guard Troy Daniels who posted a photograph of his meal that drew flak from people online.

The followers of the league were surprised by what was served to the players. Given that these are professional athletes, nutrition and quality food are just as important as their training regimen. Several people have pointed out that the food was similar to airlines serve their passengers with the way it was presented.

This was also compared to the infamous Fyre Festival that is branded as a failure as the event collapsed even before it started. The strongly hyped weekend getaway concert was supposed to be a posh and exclusive experience for those who purchased a ticket. It however led to disaster due to questionable planning concerns. One of the main points that were scrutinized online was the photograph of the sandwich that was apparently served for the people.

While the NBA is far off from the festival’s disastrous levels, people couldn’t help but compare the situation. The league is currently in a bubble at Disney World with access to the various facilities of the resort. The expectations were high provided the resources Disney has to cater to these athletes.

Despite these, fans have also pointed out how the Los Angeles Lakers were enjoying Taco Tuesday – a trend highlighted by LeBron James earlier in the season. Fans have highlighted that Kyle Kuzma posted an Instagram story of sushi and tacos.

Even LeBron’s former teammate Isaiah Thomas chipped into the discussion about the NBA’s meals. He shared the photograph of the food and added that it’s something LeBron will not eat.

It has truly been a different predicament for the league with how unique the situation has been for everyone. The global pandemic has changed the landscape of the world and it will be interesting how the NBA can keep up and maintain the success of the league despite the modified season.
