NBC’s Peacock will not break the bank. NBC Universal announced that the new streaming service even has a free version.

The company announced that the lowest tier is being called Peacock Free. The no-cost option includes ads, but it still offers over 7,500 hours of programming.

“Peacock Free includes next day access to current seasons of freshman broadcast series, complete classic series, popular movies, curated daily news and sports programming including the Olympics, Spanish-language content, select episodes of marquee Peacock originals and tent-pole series, as well as curated Peacock streaming genre channels,” NBC Universal revealed in a press release.

Meanwhile, a premium version will have double the amount of content. In addition to the above, NBC boasts that it will “include full season Peacock originals and tent-pole series, next day access to current seasons of returning broadcast series, early access to late night talk shows, and additional sports – such as the Premier League.”

The higher tier, called Peacock Premium, will be available to many cable subscribers (including 24 million Comcast and Cox customers) for free, but cord-cutters will have to pay $4.99 a month for the ad-supported higher tier.

For no commercials, it’s an additional $5 a month.

Comcast subscribers will be among the first to access Peacock with Xfinity X1 and Flex customers getting special access starting April 15. It’ll launch nationwide on July 15.

NBC’s Peacock isn’t the only streaming service launching this year. HBOMax is set to launch in May 2020, but comes with a heftier price tag at $14.99 for new subscribers. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ and Disney+, both of which went live in late 2019, cost $4.99 and $6.99, respectively.

Among the original content Peacock Premium subscribers can expect is “Girls5Eva,” a new Tina Fey-produced comedy about a one-hit-wonder ‘90s girl group that reunites, and “Angelyne,” a limited series starring Emmy Rossum as the mysterious L.A. billboard model. Peacock also has plenty of reboots with new versions of “Battlestar Galactica,” “Punky Brewster” and “Saved By The Bell” on the way.

In addition to those and many more scripted originals, Peacock will also offer live coverage of the Olympics and early late-night episodes, with “The Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” available at 8 p.m. EST and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” available at 9 p.m. EST.
