Of all the team members in “NCIS,” Ducky’s (David McCallum) lab assistant Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) has received the least amount of screen time in Season 14. Not much is known about the mild-mannered science nerd. However, that is set to change in an upcoming episode in the CBS series.

In “NCIS” Season 14, episode 13, Palmer will investigate a hit-and-run case. During the investigation, he makes an impulse decision and joins a stranger on the outside ledge of a building in order to save his life. He rushes to help a jumper.

Dietzen told TVLine, “NCIS attends a crime scene, as we are won’t to do, and when we do so, Jimmy sees a person up on a ledge. Without thinking, Jimmy sprints up there, grabs the guy [played by Spencer Treat Clark] by the belt, grabs a drainpipe and is basically, ‘If you’re going over, I’m going over with you.’ And then Jimmy realizes, ‘Oh my god, I’m not supposed to be out here!’”

Of course, Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and the rest of the team quickly discover what Palmer has done.

Jimmy will try his best to prevent the jumper from falling to his death. “This guy obviously wants to kill himself, and it’s Jimmy’s duty to say, ‘Hey, look, life is worth living,’” Dietzen explained, “You need to keep going, for a reason, for some reason.”

The “NCIS” actor revealed that this episode, titled “Keep Going,” will be peppered with flashbacks showing Palmer’s past. He has always been an optimistic character.

The show’s executive producer, Scott Williams, has written Season 14, episode 13 and it was the first script that got completed after showrunner Gary Glasberg’s sudden death in September last year.

Dietzen teased that the episode will reveal huge secrets about his character. He said, “Along the way, we learn some stuff about Jimmy Palmer that no one knew. He has a couple of big, big secrets that come out …The team learns a ton of stuff and goes, ‘Whoa! We didn’t know that!’ It’s fun, and it’s really good.”

Additionally, Dietzen is available for a live chat with fans when this episode airs. Get details of it here.
