  • Activision reportedly has a new studio specially designed to handle mobile games
  • The studio is apparently developing a new "Call of Duty" mobile game
  • "Call of Duty: Mobile" has been downloaded more than 500 million times so far

American video game publisher Activision is reportedly working on a new AAA "Call of Duty" title for mobile devices.

It was recently reported that the company had created a new studio where it could develop a new "Call of Duty" title that would launch on mobile devices. While the video game publisher has not announced anything about the studio, a recent job listing on its official careers website suggests that it is planning to bring the game to mobile devices. The job advertisement is for a systems designer and it has mentioned the department concerned as Mobile Studio.

"Welcome to Activision Mobile. We're a new in-house studio, dedicated to developing the best AAA mobile games in the world," the job ad reads. "Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise and we’re looking for great talent from mobile, console and PC backgrounds passionate about their work, who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be."

Since the ad has been posted on Activision's official site, fans believe that a new "Call of Duty" game for mobile platforms is on its way. The studio is based in Santa Monica, California, and apparently, the position would start out remotely because of the global health crisis. The job ad states that "work on a new AAA mobile game in the Call of Duty franchise has begun." However, specific details about how far the development would go and what kind of mobile title it would release were not revealed.

"Call of Duty: Mobile" is among the top-grossing titles in the industry and it is not surprising that Activision would want to capitalize on the franchise as much as it can. One of the ways to do that is by releasing another "Call of Duty" game for mobile platforms. In February 2020, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said mobile was the publisher's biggest platform and that it was working on various mobile titles based on its top franchises.

"Mobile in fact is now our leading platform," the executive said during the publisher's fourth-quarter earnings call. "We're hard at work on high quality mobile games for all of our most important franchises."

Activision released "Call of Duty: Mobile" in November 2019. The game is a free-to-play battle shooter, which has been downloaded more than 500 million times since its release.
